Chennai Suburban Train Services Reduced Due to Egmore Station Maintenance - Passengers Face Delays

Suburban electric train services in Chennai have been reduced due to ongoing maintenance and infrastructure upgrade works at Chennai Egmore Railway Station. The restriction has affected several major suburban routes, leading to longer waiting times and inconvenience for daily commuters.

Normally, suburban electric trains operate on key routes including Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu, Beach – Velachery, Tambaram – Beach, and services from Chennai Central towards Gummidipoondi, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Arakkonam.

Due to the maintenance work, trains are unable to operate through certain platforms at Egmore, causing operational changes and delays. In some cases, trains are halted for more than 30 minutes near Egmore and Chetpet stations, increasing travel time for passengers.

Railway authorities have attempted to manage the situation by reducing the number of train services and introducing special buses and additional trains during peak hours. However, many commuters still prefer suburban trains over alternative transport options because buses take longer and metro travel often requires multiple transfers.

The disruption has also resulted in heavy crowding at major stations such as Park Town, Fort, and Tambaram, where many office-goers board trains to reach workplaces in areas like Guindy, Secretariat, and Chennai Central.
