Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Forecast for 9 Districts Today

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued a heavy rain warning for nine districts in Tamil Nadu on Friday, October 9, 2026. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also expected in several parts of the state. Chennai city may receive light rain in a few areas.

According to the weather bulletin, a trough extending from the Comorin Sea to north interior Karnataka across Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka is prevailing at an altitude of approximately 0.9 km.

Heavy Rain Forecast for October 9

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and winds of 40–50 kmph is likely at isolated places in the following districts:

- Coimbatore (hill areas)

- Tirunelveli (hill areas)

- Nilgiris

- Theni

- Tenkasi

- Dindigul

- Madurai

- Virudhunagar

- Kanniyakumari

Moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40–50 kmph is likely in Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Erode and Salem districts, as well as Karaikal.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds may occur in isolated places across the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Weather Forecast for October 10

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in the hill areas of Coimbatore district, Nilgiris and Theni. Moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40–50 kmph is expected at isolated places in Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

Light rain with thunderstorms is possible in isolated parts of the remaining districts, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Weather Forecast for October 11 and 12

Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

Light rain may occur in isolated areas of the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Weather Forecast for October 13 to 15

Light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, Delta districts and southern Tamil Nadu, as well as Karaikal. Light rain may occur in isolated places across the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Temperature Forecast

The maximum temperature is expected to remain largely unchchanged across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on October 9 and 10. From October 11 to 13, temperatures may rise slightly, although no significant change is expected.

Between October 9 and 13, maximum temperatures in isolated parts of northern interior Tamil Nadu may be 2–3°C above normal. Temperatures in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to remain near normal.

Chennai Weather Forecast

On October 9, Chennai and its surrounding areas are expected to have partly cloudy skies, with light rain possible in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 35–36°C, while the minimum temperature may range between 27°C and 28°C.

On October 10, partly cloudy skies are expected to continue, with maximum temperatures around 35–36°C and minimum temperatures around 27–28°C.
