Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast Today: 20 Districts to Get Rain

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast rain in 20 districts of Tamil Nadu today, October 8, 2026. Chennai and its suburbs may also receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in some areas during the evening and night.

A trough extending from the Gulf of Mannar to north interior Karnataka through interior Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka is prevailing at around 0.9 km above sea level.

Today, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Coimbatore district and Nilgiris.

Moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely in parts of Theni, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur districts, as well as Karaikal. Light rain with thunderstorms may occur at a few places in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

On October 9, heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni and Kanniyakumari districts. Moderate rain is likely in several districts, including Tenkasi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Tirupattur, along with Karaikal.

Rain Forecast for October 10

On October 10, heavy rain is likely in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and at one or two places in Nilgiris and Theni. Moderate rain may occur in parts of Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

On October 11, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph is expected at one or two places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

Rain Forecast for October 12 and 13

On October 12 and 13, light to moderate rain is likely at one or two places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts. Light rain may occur at one or two places in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Tamil Nadu Temperature Forecast

There is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between October 8 and 11. On October 8, maximum temperatures may be 2–3°C above normal at a few places in north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, while temperatures in south Tamil Nadu arere expected to remain close to normal.
