Palani Temple Rope Car Service to Resume from September 22

The Palani Murugan Temple rope car service will resume for devotees from September 22, following the completion of annual maintenance and safety inspections, according to the temple administration.

The rope car provides devotees with an alternative to the winch service and steps for reaching the Palani hill temple. As part of its routine maintenance schedule, the rope car is periodically stopped for inspection and servicing.

The annual maintenance work began on July 20. During the maintenance period, the rope car`s motors, electrical connections and other operating systems were thoroughly inspected using modern testing equipment.

The ropes, gearbox and other key components were also examined. After the maintenance work was completed, the rope car underwent a trial run on September 16 to verify its operational and safety performance.

Several infrastructure improvement works were also completed at the rope car`s lower stations, including granite wall cladding, a new roof and improved lighting facilities. A specialist team subsequently conducted a detailed inspection, following which the rope car received the required fitness certification.

The temple administration has now announced that the Palani rope car service will reopen to devotees from Tuesday, September 22.

The maintenance work, which was initially expected to take around 45 days, extended to 64 days before completion. The reopening is expected to provide greater convenience for devotees visiting the Palani hill temple.
