The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu today (September 5) due to an atmospheric circulation prevailing over the coastal Tamil Nadu region and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the latest weather update, an atmospheric circulation is prevailing at around 7.6 km above sea level over coastal Tamil Nadu and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. In addition, a trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar through Tamil Nadu is prevailing at around 0.9 km above sea level.

The weak low-level trough that prevailed over the coastal Tamil Nadu region on September 3 has also merged with the existing trough. As a result, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar today.

Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast Till September 8

The weather department has forecast light rain with thunderstorms at one or two places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal until September 8.

There is unlikely to be any significant change in the maximum temperature across coastal Tamil Nadu during this period. However, temperatures may rise slightly in interior parts of Tamil Nadu.

Chennai Weather Today

For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some parts of the city during the evening and night hours.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to remain around 35°C to 36°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 26°C to 27°C.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay updated with the latest weather alerts, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and strong winds.
