PM Modi to Inaugurate Redeveloped Rameswaram Railway Station in September; Chennai–Rameswaram Vande Bharat Express to Launch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the newly redeveloped Rameswaram Railway Station in September, according to Southern Railway General Manager R.N. Singh.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing redevelopment works at the station, Singh said the modernised railway station is nearing completion and will soon be ready for public use with enhanced passenger facilities.

He also announced that the much-awaited Chennai–Rameswaram Vande Bharat Express is scheduled to begin operations in September. The new semi-high-speed train is expected to provide faster, safer, and more comfortable travel between Chennai and the famous pilgrimage town of Rameswaram.

New Train Services Planned

The Southern Railway General Manager said that once the redeveloped railway station becomes fully operational with all modern amenities, additional train services connecting Rameswaram with other states will also be introduced to improve regional and interstate rail connectivity.

Second Railway Track Planned on Pamban Bridge

R.N. Singh further revealed that a second railway track will be developed on the Pamban Railway Bridge after the number of train services increases in the coming years. The expansion is aimed at accommodating future growth in passenger and rail traffic.

He added that the old Pamban Railway Bridge will be completely dismantled after the new infrastructure is fully operational. To preserve its historic legacy, a miniature model of the old bridge will be installed at Rameswaram Railway Station, allowing passengers and tourists to appreciate its engineering heritage.

The redevelopment of Rameswaram Railway Station, the launch of the Chennai–Rameswaram Vande Bharat Express, and future rail infrastructure upgrades are expected to significantly boost tourism, pilgrimage travel, and railway connectivity across Tamil Nadu.
