Southwest Monsoon Likely to Begin in Kerala Tomorrow; Heavy Rain Alert for 16 Districts in Tamil Nadu

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to begin over Kerala tomorrow. At the same time, heavy rainfall has been forecast for several districts across Tamil Nadu over the next two days.

According to the weather department, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is likely at isolated places in 16 districts of Tamil Nadu today and tomorrow.

The districts likely to receive heavy rainfall include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai.

The weather department also stated that Chennai city is expected to witness partly cloudy skies today. Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in a few areas of the city.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to hover around 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 28 degrees Celsius.

With the onset of the Southwest Monsoon in Kerala, weather conditions across South India are expected to become more active in the coming days.
