Karthigai Deepam Festival Today at Vadapalani Murugan Temple: Special Pujas, Lights & Sokkapana Burning

The Karthigai Maha Deepam festival is being held today at the famous Vadapalani Murugan Temple in Chennai. As part of the celebrations, devotees lit 108 lamps at the Valli–Devasena Subramaniyar shrine and 36 traditional lamps in the main sanctum yesterday on Bharani Karthigai.

For today’s Maha Deepam, the temple opened early at 4:30 AM. After the 6:30 AM abhishekam, the main deity was adorned with a special Raja Alankaram. At 12 noon, the deity receives the silver kavacham, followed by a special sandal and vastram alankaram at 5 PM.

The Karthigai Deepam pooja will take place at 6 PM, and the sacred deepam will be lit across 27 Nakshatras, four gopurams, and eight sannidhis. The festival concludes with the traditional Sokkapana burning at 8:30 PM, attracting thousands of devotees.
