IMD Issues Weather Alert: Tamil Nadu to Receive Heavy Rain Till September 19

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu from September 12 to 19, 2025, due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts including Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Chennai, Puducherry, Villupuram, Madurai, and Kanyakumari. The system is moving westward toward Maharashtra, changing wind patterns and drawing moisture into Tamil Nadu.
From September 14 to 16, rainfall will intensify, especially in Delta and coastal regions. On September 16, Erode and Coimbatore districts may see isolated heavy showers. Chennai will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain.
