Tamil Nadu Government Estimates Rs 83 Crore for New Guindy Collectorate

The Tamil Nadu government has estimated an expenditure of Rs 83 crore to construct a new campus for the Chennai district Collectorate in Guindy.

The previous DMK government had proposed a new complex near the Madras Race Course to address the space constraints at the existing Collectorate, which currently functions from Singaravelar Maligai on Rajaji Salai. However, Guindy was eventually identified as the location for the new campus.

According to an order issued by the Revenue Department on November 10, 2025, the government approved 1.43 hectares of vacant government poramboke land at Guindy for constructing the new Collectorate. The land was identified for developing a dedicated campus for the district administration.

The TVK-led government has now initiated steps to construct the new campus.

The government has estimated Rs 83 crore for the construction of the new Collectorate complex. The proposed building will be a three-storey structure with facilities including parking and conference halls. Construction work is expected to begin soon, according to an official.

Once the new Collectorate becomes operational, the portions of the existing building currently used by the Collectorate will be handed over to the Law Department.

Singaravelar Maligai currently accommodates several government offices and judicial establishments along with the Collectorate. The first floor houses the civil and additional sessions courts, while the second floor accommodates the offices of the District Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, District Backward Classes Welfare Department and TAHDCO, along with a Civil Court.

The government is expected to use the existing Collectorate premises for additional court-related requirements after the Law Department takes over the space.

Key Details of the New Collectorate

A total of 1.43 hectares of government poramboke land has been approved at Guindy for the new Collectorate.

The existing Collectorate at Singaravelar Maligai on Rajaji Salai has been functioning in a space-constrained setting.

Singaravelar Maligai also houses several government offices and judicial establishments.

After the new Guindy facility becomes operational, the existing premises are expected to be handed over to the Law Department for further use.
