Tamil Nadu Weather: Thunderstorms and Light Rain Likely; Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into the Sea

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places across Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures in parts of interior Tamil Nadu are expected to remain 2–3°C above normal over the next few days.

On the previous day, temperatures across most parts of the state remained close to normal. However, Madurai Airport, Madurai City, Palayamkottai, and Vellore recorded temperatures crossing 100°F (around 38°C). At the same time, a few locations in Tamil Nadu received light rainfall.

According to the weather department, maximum temperatures in isolated parts of interior Tamil Nadu are likely to remain 2–3°C above normal until July 24, while temperatures in the rest of the state are expected to stay near seasonal averages.

A weak trough in the lower atmospheric levels persists over the Tamil Nadu coastal region. As a result, isolated places across the state may experience light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40–50 km/h today. Similar conditions, with light to moderate rainfall, are expected to continue over the next two days.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. Light rain is likely in a few areas during the evening or night.

Maximum Temperature: 36–37°C

Minimum Temperature: 26–27°C

Fishermen Warning

The weather department has also issued a marine warning. Until July 24, strong winds of 45–55 km/h, gusting up to 65 km/h, are likely to prevail over the Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjoining Kumari Sea.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these sea areas during the warning period due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
