Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro Fare Fixed at ₹10 - ₹40 Ahead of October 11 Opening

The Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani Metro fare has been fixed between ₹10 and ₹40 ahead of the proposed inauguration of the new Chennai Metro Phase II stretch on October 11, 2026.

The 14.64-km Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani corridor is part of Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Phase II and will provide improved connectivity between Chennai’s western suburbs and central areas.

Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro Fare

The minimum fare on the new Metro stretch will be ₹10, while passengers travelling from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani will pay a maximum fare of ₹40.

Poonamallee Bypass – Poonamallee Bus Stand:  ₹10
Intermediate stations:   ₹20
Iyyappanthangal / Porur side:   ₹30
Poonamallee Bypass – Vadapalani:   ₹40

11 Metro Stations on the New Route

The operational section covers around 14.64 km with 11 elevated stations. The route will serve important areas including Poonamallee, Karayanchavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattupakkam, Iyyappanthangal and Porur, before reaching Vadapalani.

At Vadapalani Metro Station, passengers can connect with the existing Chennai Metro Phase I network and travel towards several other parts of the city.

Metro Services Every 10 Minutes

Initial services on the new corridor are expected to operate at approximately 10-minute intervals, with around 15 trains likely to be deployed.

The new Metro service is expected to provide an additional public transport option for commuters who currently depend heavily on road transport between Poonamallee, Porur, Kattupakkam and surrounding areas.

October 11 Metro Opening

The Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro stretch is proposed to be inaugurated on October 11, 2026. The line had faced delays after completing construction and safety-related requirements while awaiting the inauguration schedule.

Once operational, the new section will strengthen connectivity between western Chennai and the existing Metro network.
