Chennai Faces Auto LPG Shortage; Drivers Wait Up to 3 Hours in Long Queues

Auto drivers in Chennai are struggling due to a shortage of Auto LPG, with many forced to wait up to three hours to refuel their vehicles. The issue has disrupted daily operations and affected the livelihood of thousands of drivers across the city.

The shortage is linked to global supply issues, including tensions in the Middle East, which have impacted the availability of LPG and CNG fuels. As a result, several private fuel stations in Chennai have run out of stock or temporarily shut down, increasing pressure on the remaining outlets.

Areas such as Saidapet, Guindy, and CID Nagar are witnessing long queues stretching up to 2 kilometres, as drivers depend heavily on a limited number of functioning gas stations.

Auto drivers have expressed concern over reduced income, physical strain, and mental stress caused by long waiting hours. Many have urged authorities to take immediate steps to restore regular fuel supply.

Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation officials have stated that sufficient LPG stock is available and is being supplied to their outlets. However, they acknowledged that the closure of several private stations has led to congestion and delays at operational centres.

The ongoing Auto LPG shortage highlights the need for better fuel distribution and contingency planning to avoid disruption in urban transport systems.
