Chennai to Velankanni Train Extended: Tambaram Express Timings & Route Details
Southern Railway has announced that the Tambaram–Karaikal train will now be extended up to Velankanni, bringing much-needed convenience for passengers and pilgrims. The train will also be operated as a regular express service from March 20, 2026.
Train Timings
Train No. 16175 - Tambaram to Velankanni Express
Departs Tambaram at 9:30 PM and reaches Velankanni at 4:30 AM
Train No. 16176 - Velankanni to Tambaram Express
Departs Velankanni at 9:50 PM and arrives at Tambaram at 4:35 AM
The overnight schedule makes it convenient for passengers to travel comfortably and reach early in the morning.
Route and Stops
The train will run via important stations including:
Peralam – Thirunallar – Karaikal – Nagore – Nagapattinam
This route improves connectivity between Chennai and key towns in the delta region.
Direct Travel to Velankanni
With this extension, passengers can now travel directly to Velankanni without changing trains at Karaikal. This is especially helpful for devotees visiting the famous Velankanni shrine.
From Special Train to Express
The train, which was earlier operated as a special service, has now been converted into a regular express train due to increasing passenger demand.
