The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private company to construct a new bridge across the canal between Virugambakkam and Arumbakkam in Chennai.

According to an official release, the existing bridge located near Kaliamman Koil Street will be demolished and replaced with a new four-lane bridge to improve road connectivity and traffic movement in the area.

The project will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹12.31 crore, and the construction work is scheduled to be completed within 180 days as per the agreement.

The new bridge is expected to significantly improve road safety and traffic flow while providing smoother connectivity between residential and commercial areas in Virugambakkam and Arumbakkam. Once completed, the project will help reduce traffic congestion and make daily commuting easier for residents.
