Home Voting Made Easy for Elderly and Disabled Voters in Tamil Nadu

Forms are now being distributed to around 8.65 lakh elderly people and persons with disabilities across Tamil Nadu, making it easier for them to vote from the comfort of their homes.

For the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the Election Commission has allowed senior citizens above 85 years - especially those who find it difficult to travel to polling booths - and persons with more than 40% disability to cast their votes through postal ballots at home.

To make this possible, Booth Level Officers are visiting eligible voters in person. They are handing over the required forms and collecting the filled-in applications. If someone isn’t available during the first visit, officials will return for a second round.

However, if a voter is not available both times, officials will take it as a sign that they are not interested in opting for postal voting. Once the final list of candidates is announced, Returning Officers in each constituency will take the next steps - visiting voters’ homes and arranging the voting process there itself.
