Suburban electric train services operating through Chennai Egmore Railway Station have been reduced due to ongoing redevelopment and maintenance works.

The ₹820 crore redevelopment project, which began in 2024, is currently focusing on maintenance work on Platforms 10 and 11 and the connected tracks. As a result, EMU trains are being operated from Platforms 5 and 6.

Earlier, around 204 suburban EMU services were operated daily on the Beach–Tambaram–Chengalpattu corridor via Egmore. However, railway authorities have temporarily reduced the number of services to 69 to manage operational constraints.

Train speeds have also been reduced in certain sections, leading to increased travel time. Passengers traveling from Tambaram Railway Station and Chengalpattu Junction railway station are experiencing delays, especially during peak hours.

Railway officials have stated that normal services will resume once the maintenance works are completed.
