Major Rule Changes From August 1: Tatkal Booking, ITR Penalty, LPG Prices and More

Several important rule changes will come into effect from August 1, impacting railway ticket bookings, income tax filing, LPG cylinder prices, banking services, and credit card users. Here`s a look at the key changes that could affect your daily life and finances.

1. New Tatkal Ticket Booking System

Indian Railways will introduce a new token system for Tatkal ticket bookings from August 1. Earlier, passengers had to visit reservation counters twice - once to collect a token and again when the booking window opened. The new system aims to reduce overcrowding at reservation counters and make the booking process faster and more convenient for last-minute travellers.

2. Penalty for Missing the ITR Filing Deadline

The Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadline for regular taxpayers is July 31. Taxpayers who fail to file their returns by the due date will be required to pay the applicable late filing penalty from August 1, as per income tax rules.

3. LPG Cylinder Price Revision

As part of the monthly price revision, oil marketing companies are expected to revise LPG cylinder prices on August 1. The updated prices will apply to both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders across the country.

4. Aadhaar-Linked CKYC 2.0 Rollout

From August 2, banks, insurance companies, and asset management firms are expected to implement CKYC 2.0 (Central Know Your Customer). The upgraded system will enable financial institutions to access customer information from the central registry using Aadhaar-based verification, but only after obtaining the customer`s consent.

5. Possible Changes to Credit Card Rules

Several banks are expected to revise their credit card terms and conditions from August 1. The changes may include updates to reward points, late payment charges, and processing fees. In addition, fixed deposit (FD) interest rates and loan EMIs could also change depending on the outcome of the Reserve Bank of India`s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
