Chennai Traffic Diversions on October 21, 2026, for Police Commemoration Day Parade

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced traffic diversions on Kamarajar Salai in Chennai on October 21, 2026, in view of the Police Commemoration Day parade. The traffic restrictions will be in force from 7:30 am to 9:00 am to facilitate the smooth conduct of the event.

The Police Martyrs Day observance will be held at 8:00 am at the Martyrs Column in front of the Director General of Police office on Kamarajar Salai.

Chennai Traffic Diversion Routes

According to the traffic advisory, vehicles travelling towards Gandhi Statue and Kamarajar Salai will be diverted through alternative routes.

Santhome High Road: Vehicles proceeding towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Karaneeswarar Koil Street via Karaneeswarar Pagoda Street, Ambedkar Bridge and Dr Natesan Road.

Labour Statue Junction: Vehicles heading towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted towards Wallajah Road.

Ice House: Vehicles travelling towards Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at Besant Road Junction towards Kannagi Junction.

MRTS–RK Salai Junction: Vehicles will not be permitted beyond this junction towards Gandhi Statue.

MTC Bus Route Changes in Chennai

Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses operating from Mylapore towards Parrys will be diverted through Royapettah, Music Academy, TTK Road and Anna Salai.

Passengers travelling through these areas are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check their bus routes before departure.

Heavy Vehicle Restrictions on Kamarajar Salai

Commercial vehicles and heavy vehicles will be prohibited from using Kamarajar Salai between Napier Bridge and Light House during the traffic restrictions.

Traffic Advisory for Motorists

Motorists travelling through Santhome, Ice House, Gandhi Statue and Kamarajar Salai are advised to follow the instructions of traffic police personnel and use the designated alternative routes. Planning journeys in advance can help commuters avoid delays during the Police Commemoration Day event.
