No more adventure journeys for the passengers in the trains hereafter!! So, please be very careful or else you would have to pay a fine.
The SR or Southern Railways has announced that it would collect Rs 1000 as fine from those passengers who travel in the stairs in the trains.
It must be taken into account that everyday SR operates about 350 plus trains. Bitter fact is that in the express and electrical trains many passengers travel on the stairs in the trains for the sake of adventure and enjoyment.
Both railway police as well as railway protection force have been keeping a close eye on those passengers who are involved in such adventures while travelling in the trains. Now, the situation has gone out of control as many travel in the trains in this dangerous manner. In this scenario, the SR has now taken a tough decision of imposing a penalty or fine amount of Rs 1000 for those passengers who travel by sitting on the stairs or take adventurous journeys by hanging from the stairs etc.
It was brought out by an official from SR that to monitor criminals etc cameras are being installed in the railway stations and trains etc. He spoke about how some passengers in long distance trains travel in an adventurous manner by sitting on the stairs or hanging on the stairs etc which are dangerous. Point is that travelling by sitting on the steps in the trains is an offence under Section 156 Railway ACT 1989. Hence, SR has decided to impose a fine of Rs 1000 on those travellers.
It is learnt that special teams (with 3 members that is TTR with 2 security personnel) have been appointed to monitor those passengers who travel in reserved coaches without making any reservation prior. The team monitors whether passengers who have not made any reservation prior board the reserved compartments. Penalty amount is imposed on those who don`t have proper tickets and these passengers have been advised to go to unreserved compartments. For ticketless travel, Rs 500 is being imposed as penalty.
