Govt raises customs duty on TVs, cell-phones

The customs Duty for the keypad cell-phones imported from foreign countries has been increased by 15%.
The central Ministry of Finance made an official announcement today (Friday, 15th December).
In a similar trend, the customs duty for consumer durables like TVs and the Micro oven has been increased from 10% to 20%.
The Department of Revenue, functioning under the central Ministry of Finance, explained that this measure is taken to encourage the �Make in India� plan.
Further, the duty for computer screens, projectors, etc., has been increased from 10% to 20%. With this measure, the department expects with confidence that domestic production will pick up more growth.
