Chennai Postal Voting Completed for 16 Constituencies Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections 2026

Postal voting for 16 Assembly constituencies in Chennai district has been successfully completed as of April 20, ahead of the Tamil Nadu 2026 Assembly Elections, officials confirmed.

The main polling for the elections is scheduled to take place on April 23. In preparation, a total of 4,085 polling stations have been set up across Chennai to ensure smooth voting.

Special arrangements were made for senior citizens aged above 85 years and persons with disabilities, allowing them to cast their votes from home. A total of 8,947 voters in these categories were covered, with 96 teams deployed to collect votes door-to-door starting from April 16.

In addition, postal voting was conducted for government officials and police personnel who are on election duty in Chennai. This process began on April 18 and continued at designated centers.

According to officials, 5,151 voters from Chennai, including police personnel, revenue department officials, and election staff, along with 17,097 voters from other districts, participated in postal voting. In total, 22,248 postal votes were recorded.

Authorities confirmed that the postal ballot collection process concluded on April 20 evening, marking an important step in the election process.
