Chennai Railway Division Earns ₹684.51 Crore from Freight in Six Months

The Chennai Railway Division has earned ₹684.51 crore in revenue from freight transportation between April and September. During the six-month period, the division transported 5.413 million tonnes of essential commodities, including power generation materials, agricultural products and heavy industrial goods, to various destinations across the country.

Coal Transportation Generates Major Revenue

Coal transportation contributed significantly to the division`s freight revenue. The division handled 3.517 million tonnes of coal, generating ₹346.42 crore in revenue. According to the report, coal accounted for approximately 65% of the division`s total freight revenue.

The division also generated ₹122.64 crore through the transportation of motor vehicles and industrial goods. Motor vehicle transportation alone contributed ₹90.62 crore.

Container Freight Adds to Revenue

Domestic container transportation generated ₹54.07 crore in revenue during the six-month period. Export and import container services contributed an additional ₹21.73 crore.

The division also earned ₹96 lakh through the movement of empty flat wagons.

The figures highlight the Chennai Railway Division`s contribution to freight transportation and revenue generation through the movement of essential commodities, industrial goods, motor vehicles and container cargo across the country.
