Gandhi Museum in Madurai Reopened After ₹10.25 Crore Renovation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the renovated Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai on September 28, 2026. The museum was renovated at a cost of ₹10.25 crore.

Before entering the museum, the Chief Minister paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the premises. He then toured the renovated museum and viewed exhibits related to Gandhi.

During his visit, Chief Minister Vijay also watched a documentary on Mahatma Gandhi and recorded his name in the museum`s visitors` register. He was also presented with a memento.

The renovated museum features updated displays covering the freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi`s life and his visits to Tamil Nadu, with digital and touchscreen technologies incorporated into the exhibition areas. Parts of the museum campus, including Kumarappa Cottage and the open-air theatre, have also been renovated.

The renovation work was carried out over around two and a half years, after which the museum was reopened for public viewing on September 28.
