Chennai One App Launches One-Click UPI Payment Feature for Faster Ticket Booking

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has introduced a new one-click UPI payment feature on the Chennai One mobile application, significantly reducing ticket booking time for commuters across the city.

Announcing the initiative, Housing and Urban Development Minister B Rajkumar said the newly launched CUMTA UPI option enables users to complete ticket purchases in just five seconds, compared to the earlier process that took nearly a minute. The enhancement is expected to improve the overall commuter experience by making digital ticket purchases faster and more convenient.

To promote the adoption of the new payment system, CUMTA has announced a special introductory offer under which users can book their first ticket for just Re 1 through the Chennai One app.

Chennai One was launched in September 2025 as an integrated mobility platform designed to bring together various public transportation services under a single application. The app allows commuters to plan trips, book tickets and access multiple transport modes seamlessly through one interface.

The platform currently integrates services including MTC buses, Chennai Metro Rail, suburban train services and last-mile connectivity options such as auto-rickshaws. With the addition of one-click UPI payments, Chennai One aims to further simplify urban travel and encourage greater use of public transport in Chennai.

Officials believe the new feature will help increase digital transactions, reduce booking delays and provide a smoother travel experience for lakhs of daily commuters.
