Chennai Rain: Waterlogging Disrupts Pedestrian Movement in Pulianthope and Choolai

Several streets in Pulianthope and Choolai experienced waterlogging following Sunday`s rain, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists.

Low-lying areas, including Sundarapuram 2nd Street and Apparao Gardens Street, were particularly affected.

Traffic Diversions Add to Residents` Problems

Ongoing road works on Elephant Gate Road in Pulianthope have led to vehicle diversions through Sundarapuram 2nd Street, increasing traffic congestion.

Stagnant water near the Urban Health and Wellness Centre has also inconvenienced patients, particularly senior citizens.

In Choolai, residents and office-goers were forced to wade through waterlogged Apparao Gardens Street.

Residents Raise Concerns

Anitha, a Pulianthope resident, said rainwater had accumulated on the roads, making it difficult for children, women and elderly people to cross safely. She also highlighted the inconvenience caused by two-wheelers splashing stagnant water on pedestrians.

Velu, a shopkeeper in Choolai, said a stormwater drain blockage had caused rainwater to stagnate on the road.

Corporation to Clear Stagnant Water

A senior Greater Chennai Corporation official said stagnant water would be removed using a tractor-mounted machine. The water was expected to be cleared by Monday night or Tuesday morning.
