PM Modi Urges Indians to Avoid Unnecessary Foreign Trips, Overseas Weddings and Gold Purchases

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Indians to avoid unnecessary spending abroad, including leisure trips and overseas weddings, while also calling on people to refrain from buying gold unless it is essential.

Modi made the remarks in a selfie-style video message while attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek during his visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Congratulating the country on recording 7.8% economic growth, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening self-reliance and encouraging the use of Swadeshi products.

“Foreign trips, if you are going for leisure, you should not go. If you are getting married abroad, you should not do so. And if it is not necessary, you should not buy gold either,” Modi said.

He said greater emphasis on Swadeshi products and self-reliance would help India move towards becoming a developed nation.

Modi expressed confidence that by the time India completes 100 years of independence, the country will be able to present a developed and self-reliant India to the younger generation.
