Tamil Nadu Weather: Temperatures Likely to Rise in Interior Districts Until September 8

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast a rise in temperatures across interior Tamil Nadu until Tuesday, September 8. At the same time, several districts are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over the coming days.

An atmospheric circulation is prevailing at around 7.6 km above sea level over coastal Tamil Nadu and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. A trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar through Tamil Nadu is also prevailing at around 0.9 km above sea level.

Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadu

On Saturday, September 5, moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar. Light rain is also possible at isolated places in other parts of Tamil Nadu.

In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. Some parts of the city may receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning during the evening and night.

From Sunday, September 6, to Tuesday, September 8, light rain is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu. On September 9 and 10, moderate rain is expected at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts and northern Tamil Nadu, while isolated areas may receive light rain.

Temperatures to Rise in Interior Tamil Nadu

The maximum temperature in some parts of interior Tamil Nadu is expected to remain 2°C to 4°C above normal from September 5 to September 8.

Five locations recorded temperatures of 100°F or above. Palayamkottai recorded the highest temperature at 104°F, while Madurai Airport and Thanjavur recorded 102.2°F. Madurai city recorded 100.76°F, and Karur Paramathi recorded 100.4°F.

Tamil Nadu Rainfall Report

According to rainfall data recorded until 8:30 AM on Friday, the highest rainfall during the previous 24 hours was 60 mm. The rainfall was recorded at Tindivanam and Vadachiruvallur in Villupuram district, and Kadavannur in Kallakurichi district.
