The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heavy rain alert for 19 districts in Tamil Nadu due to an atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the weather department, several districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds moving at speeds of 40–50 kmph today.

Districts Likely to Receive Heavy Rain Today

The districts under heavy rain warning include:

- The Nilgiris
- Coimbatore
- Erode
- Tirupur
- Salem
- Dharmapuri
- Krishnagiri
- Vellore
- Tiruvannamalai
- Tiruchirappalli
- Namakkal
- Karur
- Dindigul
- Theni
- Madurai

Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is also expected in isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

For Chennai and surrounding suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. Light rain with thunder and lightning may occur during evening or night hours.

Maximum temperature: 37°C to 38°C
Minimum temperature: 28°C to 29°C

Fishermen Warning Issued

The weather department has warned fishermen not to venture into:

- South Tamil Nadu coastal areas
- Gulf of Mannar
- Kanyakumari Sea

Strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph are expected till May 28.
