The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has collected ₹12.25 lakh in fines from builders and developers during a single-day enforcement drive conducted across 12 city zones for violating construction safety and cleanliness regulations.

The action targeted construction sites that failed to comply with civic norms related to dust pollution control, waste management and overall site safety.

The largest individual penalty of ₹5 lakh was imposed on a private developer constructing a multi-storey building on Poonamallee High Road in Anna Nagar for repeatedly failing to comply with civic directives.

With total penalties of ₹5.75 lakh, Anna Nagar recorded the highest fines during the drive, followed by Tiruvottiyur (₹2 lakh) and Manali (₹1 lakh).

Enforcement action was also carried out in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Adyar, Perungudi and Sholinganallur.

The GCC said inspections will continue regularly and warned that builders who fail to follow construction safety and environmental regulations will face stricter legal action and higher penalties.
