Southern Railway Modernises Arakkonam Station at Rs.97.73 Crore

The Chennai Railway Division has announced that the Arakkonam Railway Station has been modernised at a cost of Rs.97.73 crore to improve train operations and passenger convenience.

Arakkonam is one of the key railway junctions connecting Tamil Nadu with northern routes. As part of the upgrade, separate railway tracks have been developed for express and suburban trains, allowing multiple trains to operate smoothly at the same time.

Additional railway infrastructure works worth Rs.7 crore have also been completed near Thiruvalangadu to ease train movement. Platforms 3, 4, and 5, which previously handled 18-coach trains, have now been extended to accommodate 24-coach trains.

The project also includes improved passenger amenities, new subway facilities, and better operational infrastructure. Daily commuters travelling on Chennai–Arakkonam–Renigunta and Chennai–Arakkonam–Chengalpattu routes are expected to benefit significantly from these upgrades.
