Traffic Diversions Announced for Panguni Festival in Mylapore

In view of the Panguni Peruvizha festival at Kapaleeswarar Temple, scheduled from March 23 to April 1, the Greater Chennai City Police has announced major traffic diversions in and around Mylapore.

Key Festival Dates

  • Adhikara Nandhi Festival – March 25 (6:00 AM)

  • Car Festival – March 29 (6:00 AM)

  • Arubathimoovar Festival – March 30 (2:30 PM)

Traffic restrictions will be implemented based on crowd movement and will remain in force until the completion of each event.

Road Restrictions

No vehicles will be allowed towards the temple from several key junctions, including:

  • Devadi Street, Nadu Street & North Chitrakulam

  • Sundareswarar Street towards East Mada Street

  • TSV Koil Street & Adams Street towards South Mada Street

  • R.K. Mutt Road towards South & North Mada Streets

  • Luz Junction towards R.K. Mutt Road

  • St. Mary’s Road, Dr. Ranga Road, and other connecting roads

 Diversion Routes

From Royapettah High Road → Mandaveli:
Vehicles will be diverted via Luz Church Road, De’Silva Road, Bakthavachalam Road, Ranga Road, C.P. Ramasamy Road, R.A. Puram routes, and reach Mandaveli Junction.

From Adyar → Luz:
Diversion at Mandaveli through Venkata Krishna Road, Sringeri Mutt Road, Luz Avenue, and Royapettah High Road.

From Alwarpet → Luz:
Vehicles will be rerouted via Oliver Road, P.S. Sivasamy Salai, Vivekananda College junction, and R.H. Road.

TC Bus Changes

MTC buses from Mylapore Tank Terminus will temporarily operate near Luz Church Road (Amrutanjan area) during the festival days.

Parking Arrangements

❌ No Parking Zones:

  • Sannathi Street

  • East Mada Street

  • South Mada Street

  • North Mada Street

  • R.K. Mutt Road

✅ Designated Parking Areas:

  • Luz Church Road (Opp. Kamadenu Kalyana Mandapam): 100 two-wheelers, 15 cars

  • Venkatesa Agraharam Road (MRTS Flyover near Saibaba Temple): 100 two-wheelers, 30 cars

  • Temple Ground near P.S. Hr. Sec. School: 300 two-wheelers, 50 cars

  • R.R. Sabha, Sundareswarar Street: Reserved for police vehicles

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with traffic police and use alternate routes to avoid congestion during the festival period.
