Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Moderate Rain Expected from December 30 to January 1

Posted on: 29/Dec/2025 9:24:05 AM

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory stating that moderate rainfall is likely across many parts of Tamil Nadu from December 30 to January 1. The change in weather is attributed to an atmospheric circulation prevailing over the Comorin Sea and the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea.

Detailed Forecast

On December 29, isolated moderate rain is expected over the delta districts and Karaikal, while the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to experience mostly dry weather. From December 30 onwards until January 1, rainfall activity is expected to increase, with moderate rain at many places across Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal.

Temperature & Winter Conditions

The IMD has also noted that minimum temperatures will remain below normal across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Frost conditions may occur during early morning and night hours in the Nilgiris district and Kodaikanal hill areas. In Chennai and its suburban regions, light fog is likely at a few places during the early morning hours of December 29.

Fishermen Advisory

Due to strengthening winds, speed reaching up to 65 kmph, rough sea conditions are expected over:

- South Tamil Nadu coastal areas

- Gulf of Mannar

- Comorin Sea

As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on December 29.

Conclusion

Residents are advised to remain alert as the weather system may bring widespread rainfall, colder nights, and hazardous sea conditions. Regular updates from official weather agencies should be followed to ensure safety and preparedness.
