Two Low-Pressure Areas to Form Over Bay of Bengal | Northeast Monsoon to Intensify in Tamil Nadu

Posted on: 07/Nov/2025 9:43:04 AM

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Northeast Monsoon 2025 will intensify over Tamil Nadu in the coming days, with two new low-pressure systems expected to form over the Bay of Bengal.

First Low-Pressure Area - November 14

According to the IMD, the first low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal on November 14, 2025. This system is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall across several districts including Chennai, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, and Pudukkottai.

Second Low-Pressure Area - November 19

A second low-pressure zone is likely to form over the Andaman Sea on November 19, 2025. As this system moves westward, it may further enhance monsoon activity and trigger widespread rainfall across southern India.

Heavy Rain Likely Across Tamil Nadu

With both systems developing back-to-back, rainfall intensity will increase in Tamil Nadu from mid-November. Coastal and delta regions could experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this period due to rough weather conditions.

Northeast Monsoon Gains Strength

After the Montha cyclone that crossed the Andhra coast recently, this renewed activity will help boost monsoon rainfall across Tamil Nadu. Weather experts suggest that November 2025 could bring above-normal rainfall, benefiting agriculture and water reservoirs.
