According to the release from the Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC in Chennai, a new low pressure has formed yesterday in the Bay of Bengal. As a result of this, there would be moderate rains across TN today.
It is worthy to mention that in the last 24 hours till yesterday morning Nilgiris district Avalanchi received 21cm of rain. Parson Valley received 11cms of rain and 10cms of rain was received in Upper Bhavani and Bodhi Mundu. After this, Valparai and Chinakallur each received 9cms of rain. There was 8cm rain in Solaiyur.
The atmospheric air circulation prevailing in the northwest Bay of Bengal and in the adjoining places has resulted in the formation of a new low pressure yesterday. It is present adjacent to the southwest of Bangladesh and west Bengal. In the next 24 hours, it is likely to strengthen and TN might not be directly affected.
Today, there will be light to moderate rains in few places belonging to TN, Puducherry and Karaikal. There are chances of heavy rains today in a few places belonging to the district of Nilgiris.
In Chennai and its nearby areas, the sky would be partly cloudy and there would be light to moderate rains in few places. It is noteworthy that coastal places of southern district of TN & Gulf of Mannar are likely to experience a cyclonic storm with a speed of 45kmph to 55 kmph. In between, the speeds might touch 60kmph also. The fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea. This was mentioned in the release.
