Gopal Vittal Re-Elected as GSMA Board Chair for 2027–2028

The GSMA Board of Directors has re-elected Gopal Vittal, Executive Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel, as its Chair for the 2027–2028 term, extending until December 2028.

Vittal, who has served on the GSMA Board for 10 years and as Chair since 2025, will continue overseeing the organisation`s strategic direction. The GSMA represents mobile operators and companies across the global mobile ecosystem.

The Board has also elected Vodafone CEO Margherita Della Valle as co-Deputy Chair, alongside Ralph Mupita, Group President and CEO of MTN Group, who has been re-elected.

Vittal highlighted network security, customer protection against digital scams, artificial intelligence and sustainable investments in telecom infrastructure as key industry priorities for the coming years.

The leadership appointments are expected to strengthen the GSMA`s efforts to advance global mobile connectivity, digital innovation and secure telecommunications infrastructure.
