Cold Winds from North to Lower Temperatures in Tamil Nadu; Mercury May Drop by 4°C Today

Posted on: 20/Dec/2025 9:23:23 AM

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that temperatures across several parts of Tamil Nadu may drop by up to 4 degrees Celsius below normal today, due to an increase in cold winds flowing from northern India.

According to the India Meteorological Department, cold conditions have intensified in northern states. As a result, cold air is moving southwards, leading to foggy conditions in many regions of Tamil Nadu.

Key Weather Highlights

- Dense fog likely during early morning hours in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

- Minimum temperatures may fall up to 4°C below normal in some areas.

- Chennai and suburban regions are expected to witness partly cloudy skies.

- Light fog or mist may occur in a few places during early morning hours, especially in coastal and inland pockets.

Meteorological officials stated that the prevailing cold air flow from the north is responsible for the sudden dip in temperatures and increased fog formation, particularly during late night and early morning hours.

Residents are advised to take precautions during early morning travel, as fog may reduce visibility in certain locations.
