Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain Likely in Delta & Southern Districts; Third Monsoon Cyclone Expected After Dec 23

Posted on: 06/Dec/2025 9:00:04 AM

With the Northeast Monsoon currently active over Tamil Nadu, weather conditions are expected to intensify over the next several days. Due to easterly wind intrusion, rainfall is likely today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday), especially across the Delta and southern districts.

To understand how the monsoon is expected to behave through December, private weather forecaster Delta Weatherman Hemachandar shared detailed insights.

Rainfall Likely Again Between December 10–12

According to Hemachandar:

- From December 10 to 12, easterly winds will strengthen, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu.

- Coastal districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain during this period.

Monsoon to Intensify After December 15

He further explained:

- After December 15, sea-based oscillations will turn favourable.

- This will lead to successive rain events, increasing the monsoon’s overall intensity.

Two Low-Pressure Areas Expected

Weather models indicate:

- A new low-pressure area may form after December 15, bringing rain to the Delta and southern districts.

- Another system is likely around December 20, giving rain along the Chennai–Kanyakumari coastal belt.

Third Monsoon Cyclone Possible After December 23

Hemachandar noted that atmospheric conditions over the South Bay of Bengal are supportive of a third monsoon cyclone forming after December 23.

- This system may resemble Cyclone Ditwah, which brought significant rainfall recently.

- The potential cyclone could deliver widespread, beneficial monsoon rains.

Monsoon May Extend Into January

He added that the Northeast Monsoon 2024–25 could extend until the first week of January, given the current atmospheric pattern.
