The peak summer or Kathri Veyil would be coming to a close on 28th of May. This time, the intensity of summer is not felt by the residents belonging to Tamil Nadu and that was mainly due to the rains that lashed across TN.

Every year, months from March to May are considered as the summer season is known to us.  During the Kathri Veyil or peak summer from 4th to 28th May, the heat would be unbearable usually. This summer Kathri Veyil began on 4th of May and in the beginning the summer was unbearable in TN.

Places like Chennai, Karur Paramathi, Madurai, Trichy, Erode etc recorded 100 degrees Fahrenheit also. The temperature reached 106 degrees Fahrenheit in places like Vellore, Erode and Madurai etc. For the last few days, there have been rains across TN in many places due to several reasons.

There were heavy rains in one or two places belonging to southern districts like Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari and Western Ghats districts like Coimbatore etc. In Chennai also in the evenings there were moderate rains

It was brought out by some officials from the RMC in Chennai that in this ongoing year kodai mazhai or summer rains were 91% above the normal. This has led to reduced intensity of Kathri Veyil this time. Moreover, the SW monsoon began 9 days earlier on  24th May and this has also contributed to the reduced intensity of Kathiri Veyil.
