Prospects of rain in the south and central Tamil Nadu districts

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of rain in the south and central districts of Tamil Nadu due to the cyclonic format in the upper layers of the atmospheres.

There is a prevailing cyclonic format in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the south Tamil Nadu.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that due to the above cyclonic format as well as the convective rain phenomenon, there are prospects of mild to medium rains in the 9 districts of Kanyakumari, Thirunelveli, Thhothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Nagaippattinam, and Cuddalore.

The centre has further informed that there are prospects of heavy rains in a few places in 5 districts Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudhukkottai, Thanjavur, and Thiruvarur.

As high-speed winds are blowing at 40 kmph to 50 kmph in the southern Tamil Nadu coastal areas, a warning has been issued to the fishermen of that region not to venture out for fishing. They have been warned not to enter central Andaman Sea area.

The Chennai Metro City will generally remain cloudy. There are prospects of mild rain in a few places in the city during the evening or the night sessions.

During the period of the last 24 hours, a maximum rainfall of 5 cm has been recorded at Dewala in Nilgiri District. Rainfall recorded in cm in other places: Mayiladuthurai, Nagappattinam - 4, Chinnakkallar, Coimbatore and Valparai - 3 cm.
