Chennai Water Supply Restored in Adyar and Perungudi After Pipeline Relocation

Drinking water supply has been restored in several areas of the Adyar and Perungudi zones after work to relocate a major water pipeline was completed.

According to a Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) statement, water supply had been affected from September 20 due to pipeline relocation work being carried out for a stormwater drain project in Sholinganallur.

1,400 mm Pipeline Relocated

The Chennai Corporation is constructing a stormwater drain along TNHB Main Road in Ward 199 of Sholinganallur Zone. To facilitate the work, CMWSSB had planned to relocate a 1,400 mm diameter main drinking water pipeline carrying water from a seawater desalination plant with a capacity of 150 million litres per day (MLD).

The relocation work was scheduled from September 20 to 29, resulting in disruption to water supply in parts of the Adyar and Perungudi zones.

As an alternative arrangement, drinking water was supplied through the 530 MLD Chembarambakkam Water Treatment Plant.

Water Supply Restored

CMWSSB said the entire work was completed on a war-footing basis, including the relocation and installation of the main pipeline over a distance of 53 metres.

Regular drinking water supply resumed from 10 am on Monday, September 28, the statement said.
