Chengalpattu Bus Terminus Opening Soon: New Bus Stand Set to Open by October 2026

The new Chengalpattu bus terminus, built by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) at a cost of Rs 120 crore, is expected to open by October 2026.

The Chengalpattu new bus stand has been developed on 10.20 acres and features 41 bus bays, 46,339 sq ft of retail space, shops, restaurants and parking facilities.

CMDA has floated a 15-year PPP tender to operate and maintain the terminal. The private operator will earn revenue from bus entry fees, shops, advertising, four-wheeler parking and other commercial facilities. The reserve annual concession fee is Rs 10 lakh.

Around 1,050 buses are expected to use the terminal daily, including TNSTC, MTC, local and private buses. The proposed bus entry fee is Rs 15 per bus per day, including GST.

The new Chengalpattu bus terminal is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the town, where existing bus stands have contributed to heavy traffic for decades.

Direct bus services are also planned to destinations such as Chennai, Kilambakkam, Tambaram, Tirupati, Bengaluru, Puducherry, Vellore, Kancheepuram, Mamallapuram and Kalpakkam.

With the final works underway, the Chengalpattu new bus terminus is expected to become a major transport hub for the region.
