Chennai Airport Increases Free Parking Time to 15 Minutes for Special Passengers
In a move aimed at easing passenger convenience, the Chennai International Airport has extended the free parking duration from 10 minutes to 15 minutes for vehicles carrying specific categories of passengers. This includes disabled individuals, elderly people, women, and patients.
Until now, vehicles entering the airport - whether for dropping off passengers at the domestic or international terminals or for picking up arriving passengers-were eligible for 10 minutes of free parking. Exceeding this time limit resulted in a parking fee of Rs. 85 for every 30 minutes.
However, airport authorities noted that vehicles transporting disabled persons, senior citizens, patients, and women often required additional time for safe loading and unloading. This led to frequent disagreements between drivers and airport staff.
Addressing these concerns, the airport has officially announced an additional 5 minutes of free parking for such vehicles. With this change, the toll-free duration now stands at 15 minutes, providing much-needed relief to passengers who require extra assistance.
The new rule is expected to streamline passenger movement and reduce conflicts at the terminals while ensuring a smoother, more accessible travel experience for all.
