Don`t get surprised if you come across sanitary workers from the Chennai Corporation at your doorstep on this coming Saturday!!
This piece of news would make the Chennaites feel happy. The news is that the Chennai Corporation would launch a programme to collect unwanted items directly from the homes from 11th of October 2025.
Every day, from across 200 wards belonging to 15 zones in GCC, more than 6000 tonnes of garbage are collected. After segregating the waste from homes into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, they are then sent to composting centres, gas stations etc. It is worthy to note that the waste that is dumped at Perungudi and Kodungaiyur are sorted out using bio-mining processes.
The shocking piece of information is that the residents not only throw biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes but also unused electrical items, beds etc as garbage. These would get accumulated at public places and would become a health hazard for the public. In addition, the unused electrical items etc thrown by the residents would also lead to blockage in the water bodies etc.
In this scenario, the Chennai Corporation has launched a programme where the sanitary workers would go to each house on the Saturdays in Chennai and collect the unused items from them. This superb programme would begin from 11th October.

Recently, 700 tonnes of garbage was removed by the sanitary workers and these included unused beds and mattresses etc thrown on the road sides.
