Vetri Payanam Scheme: Trial Run Scheduled for September 27

The trial run for the Tamil Nadu government`s expanded free bus travel scheme for women, known as the Vetri Payanam Scheme, is scheduled to be conducted on September 27, 2026.

The scheme is being introduced to expand the existing free bus travel facility available to women in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to officially launch the Vetri Payanam Scheme on October 2, 2026.

A review meeting on the preparations for the scheme was held under the leadership of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on September 21. Officials discussed the arrangements required ahead of the statewide implementation.

As part of the preparations, a trial run of the buses covered under the expanded scheme will be conducted on September 27. The trial is intended to verify the operational arrangements before the scheme is formally launched.

The Vetri Payanam Scheme is expected to extend free bus travel for women to additional government bus services across Tamil Nadu. The expanded facility is scheduled to come into effect from October 2.
