Heavy Rain Likely in 4 Tamil Nadu Districts Today: Weather Department

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rain in four districts of Tamil Nadu today due to a trough extending from south interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar across Tamil Nadu.

According to the weather department, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts, along with Karaikal, are likely to receive heavy rain at one or two places today.

Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is expected in several districts, including the Western Ghats districts, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Madurai, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga.

Rain Forecast for the Coming Days

Tomorrow, moderate rain is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, as well as Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Madurai, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga.

On September 12, moderate rain may occur at isolated places in Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga districts.

Chennai Weather Today

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy today. Some parts of the city may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning during the evening or night.

The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 33–34°C, while the minimum temperature could be around 26–27°C.

The weather department has also stated that there is likely to be no significant change in maximum temperatures across interior Tamil Nadu until September 14, although temperatures may rise slightly. Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are also expected to see no major change in maximum temperatures.
