Why is Krishna Jayanthi Celebrated?

According to the Hindu lunar calendar and scriptures, Lord Krishna was born on Ashtami Tithi, the eighth day of the lunar fortnight. Lord Krishna is regarded as the eighth incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trinity.

The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Jayanthi, Gokulashtami and Janmashtami.

Devotees believe that welcoming Lord Krishna into their homes, offering Prasadam and worshipping Him with devotion on this day brings blessings and helps fulfil their wishes.
