Suburban Train Services Further Reduced on Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpattu Corridor

Suburban train commuters in Chennai will face further service reductions on the busy Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpattu corridor, as Southern Railway revises its timetable to manage ongoing operational constraints.

Under the new schedule effective until April 5, the number of regular EMU services has been cut to 115, down from around 164 services operated during the initial phase of works. During normal operations, the corridor handles approximately 204 services daily. To partially compensate for the reduction, 26 shuttle services have been introduced.

Shuttle Services Introduced

The newly added shuttle trains will run between Egmore-St Thomas Mount and Guduvanchery-Chengalpattu via the main line. However, these services will not stop at intermediate stations such as Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, and Chetpet, which may inconvenience daily office-goers.

AC Services Cancelled

AC suburban services between Beach and Tambaram have been fully suspended during this period. In addition, no AC EMU trains will operate on Sundays until further notice.

Route Extensions and Additional Halts

In a temporary adjustment, weekday Tambaram-Gummidipoondi services have been extended up to Chengalpattu. Select fast EMU trains will also receive additional halts at St Thomas Mount to improve passenger interchange connectivity.

The revised arrangements come after several days of disruption marked by overcrowding, irregular intervals, and longer travel times across the corridor. Commuters are advised to check updated schedules before planning their journey.
