Praggnanandhaa Becomes First Indian to Win Grand Chess Tour Title

Indian chess player R. Praggnanandhaa created history by becoming the first Indian to win the Grand Chess Tour title held in the United States.

The final of the prestigious Grand Chess Tour, featuring the world’s top 10 Grandmasters, was held in St. Louis, USA. Tamil Nadu’s Praggnanandhaa competed in the final.

Praggnanandhaa initially trailed American player Caruana 9-3 after the first two classical games. However, he made a strong comeback in the rapid games to take the lead.

The blitz games ended in draws, resulting in the points being shared. Praggnanandhaa eventually won the title with a score of 15-13.

With this victory, Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian to win a Grand Chess Tour title. He also received approximately ₹1.90 crore as prize money.
