Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Moderate Rain Likely in 21 Districts Today

Several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive moderate rain today, with the Chennai Meteorological Centre forecasting showers in 21 districts and in Puducherry and Karaikal.

The weather department said a feeble trough in the lower atmosphere is prevailing along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, which could trigger rainfall in several places.

21 Districts to Receive Rain

Moderate rain is likely at one or two places in Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam, Sivaganga, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Nilgiris.

Puducherry and Karaikal may also receive moderate rain.

On August 21, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is possible at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Rain Forecast for August 22 to 26

The weather department has forecast moderate rain in parts of the Western Ghats and North Coastal Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, on August 22 and 23.

On August 24 and 25, heavy rain is possible in the hilly areas of Coimbatore district and isolated parts of the Nilgiris.

Light rain may occur at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on August 26.

Chennai Weather Today

Chennai is likely to remain partly cloudy, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms possible in some parts of the city during the evening or night.

The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 36-37°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 27-28°C.

The weather department said there is unlikely to be any major change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal until August 24, although temperatures may rise slightly in interior Tamil Nadu.
